in() vs manual equals in sql server 2005

Just want clarifications on who is faster, the

col1 in ('val1', 'val2', 'val3') 

or the

col1 = 'val1' or col1 = 'val2' or col1 = 'val3'

right now I'm using the first one because it is more readable.
